This week’s front runner (expectedly) turned out to be Luv Ranjan’s SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY, which opened to an impressive 25-30 percent start on an average, across most parts of India. The opening is all the more impressive given the dreaded morning shows and the examination period in many circuits, as the film is predominantly for the campus crowd. The film picked up noticeably during the latter shows. The first day appears to be in the 7-8 crore range, which is excellent.
Given the upcoming Holi holiday(s), the film should sail through comfortably at the box-office.
The other release of the same week, Diljit -Sonakshi’s WELCOME TO NEW YORK, failed to make much of a mark at the box-office, may be due to a radical theme and treatment.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Pandey’s Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee starrer AIYAARY has been rejected at the box-office, netting a paltry 17 crores during the opening week from India.
Checking out Akshay Kumar’s PAD MAN, after a good to decent week (62 crore), the film crashed in the second managing just around 13.50 crore, thus netting 75.50 crore in two weeks from India and will end up as an above average fare.
Concluding with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Shahid, Deepika and Ranveer starrer PADMAAVAT, the film mopped up another 13 crore, thus netting 270 crore in four weeks from India and is a super duper hit, that has also rocked the overseas grossing over $30m.
