It was but obvious that Akshay Kumar’s socially relevant PAD MAN would not take a flying start like a HOUSEFULL or the superstar’s other commercial potboilers, and that is exactly how the script unfolded.
As per reports, R. Balki’s PAD MAN has embarked upon a 25-30 percent start, on an average, which is good enough for a film carrying such a theme. Having said that, by and large PAD MAN has managed to strike a chord with the target audience. It is more or less given that the film will end up with a good to decent opening week and a semi-hit to hit status in the final count, very much as per the adage- Slow and steady wins the race.
As per early estimates, the first day appears to be in the 10-11 crore range.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Shahid, Deepika and Ranveer starrer, PADMAAVAT, saw a very steady second week grabbing 65 crore thus netting 225 crore in two weeks (15 days to be exact) from India and is sure to end up as a super hit. The performance is very creditable given the odds that the film had to face. PADMAAVAT is superb in the overseas grossing $22m at the end of the second week.
