Rajkummar Rao is the man of the hour. This year he had a slate of releases like BEHEN HOGI TERI, NEWTON, TRAPPED, BAREILLY KI BARFI and the recently released SHAADI MEIN ZAROOR AANA.

And now he will be seen in Alt Balaji’s web series, ‘Bose Dead/Alive’ playing the protagonist Subhash Chandra Bose.

Rajkummar spoke exclusively in length about his role and how he prepared hard for the same.

“There was a lot of preparation involved starting from reading a lot about him through his autobiography and some other available books, watching lot of documentaries, videos that were available on the Youtube, and visiting his house in Kolkata, and also learning a new language. There are so many things that we aren’t aware about him. We haven’t tampered the facts. It was not an easy task for me. The script was so well researched. My duty was to get through the script and to get the authenticity right and make him believable, humane and not filmy.”

When asked if Bose was an unsung hero, he commented, “Yes, there are nuances that we aren’t aware about him. Like what happened between Gandhiji and Bose, the web series will give you answers to many questions.”

Further talking about the preparations for the role, he added, “I gained 13 kgs of weight, going half bald to try and look as close to him as possible. However, more than the look I tried to catch his passion and his unconditional love for his motherland and his drive and vision. For me it’s the emotional journey which is more important than the physical appearance.”

We asked him about his thoughts on growth of web series and if Indian web series are at par with west to which he said, “Yes, there are many web series that I watch and now I feel the web series are getting at par with the west and I am happy how we are growing in this arena.”

Bose Dead/ Alive will air on Alt Balaji app from November 20, 2017, which has been creatively produced by Rajkummar’s good friend Hansal Mehta and it also stars Patralekha
