Ekta Kapoor and Ex-CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani were at loggerheads thanks to his diktats regarding her films like UDTA PUNJAB and the recently released LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA.
At the trailer launch of ALTBalaji’s upcoming web series Bose: Dead/Alive, Ekta Kapoor was asked whether her friendship with the Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani had anything to do with Pahlaj Nihalanai’s recent ouster as CBFC chief, to which Ekta coolly replied, “Honestly between you and me I would love to take this credit but I can’t. Smriti is her own person and when I came to know about the news (Smriti being appointed as IB minister) through TV I called her up and asked, “Aapne bataya nahi? and she said main apne kaam ke bare mein tujhe kyun bataun? And it’s actually amazing in fact I am very proud that television gave birth to one the most prolific leaders of our country. I think she is beyond awesome. She is an excellent mother a superb wife a great friend but as a professional she just forgets any friendships. Till now, I would discuss films and TV with her but ab toh woh baat bhi band ho gayi hai.”
That was a very witty reply given by this TV Czarina. However, no matter to whom does the credit of Pahlaj’s ouster goes nevertheless the entire industry is happy with this move and is looking forward to Prasoon Joshi’s tenure as the new CBFC chief.
